Message from the President
Greetings North Piedmont Chapter! I hope that everyone has had a great start to 2020! With the ASHRAE Winter meeting taking place in Orlando currently, I would like to congratulate the 33 members worldwide that Society has elevated to the grade of Fellow.
For any who missed the PR email, Fellow ASHRAE is a membership grade that recognizes members who have attained distinction and made substantial contributions in HVAC&R and the built environment such as education, research, engineering design and consultation, publications, presentations, and mentoring.
Of that group of 33, I want to send a special congratulations to North Piedmont’s Charles Gulledge III, of Environmental Air Systems, on receiving this honor. Way to go Chuck and thank you for your commitment to ASHRAE!
Mark your calendars. By Proclamation of the Governor, February 16th through the 22nd 2020 is hereby recognized as “National Engineers Week” in North Carolina. “EWeek” promotes recognition among parents, teachers, and students of the importance of a technical education and a high level of literacy in math, science, and technology.
Chapter Technology Transfer and Programs
Thank you to everyone who came out for January's meeting promoting Government Advocacy! We would like to thank Tim Ashby of the Triangle Chapter and Regional Vice Chair of GAC for making the drive to talk with us about the importance of our role as a voice in government and how we can get involved. Stay tuned to the GAC section for more on how you can help!
February's meeting is one you will not want to miss. Each year, we're forutnate to welcome a member from Society to our chapter and this year we are extremely fortunate to host President Darryl Boyce! Please join us for lunch at Sedgefield Country Club on February 12th as he discusses his theme for this year, "Building for People and Performance, Achieving Operational Excellence." Please register early, as we hope to have great attendance!
Each year, our chapter's operations are made possible by a small group of sponsors. Of their generous contributions, the majority goes to ASHRAE research. However, a small portion also goes to fund our Chapter's meetings and special events. These folks are recognized at each of our meetings, but I would like to take this opportunity to recognize them here as well.

Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)
It is an exciting time to be involved in ASHRAE especially if you are a part of the prestigous YEA crowd. Our chapter currently has a period of 3+ years of sustained YEA growth. That is something we should be very proud of! We currently are +1 YEA member for the year for a total of 26 YEA members. I, in conjuntion with our BOG, am currently planning another YEA outreach event for the spring. If you have any ideas please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] If you plan on attending the ASHRAE winter conference this month in February, please make plans to check out the many YEA events currently scheduled.
We hope all students will join us in welcoming Society President Darryl Boyce to campus on February 12 at 10 AM in Cherry 111.
See you there!
