Message from the President
I want to thank our speaker Mick Schwedler for giving us a great presentation on High Performance Chilled Water Systems and I want to thank everyone that was able to attend our first virtual chapter meeting.
As October approaches, that only means one thing. Our annual fall golf tournament is coming up! Please join us for our fall golf tournament Friday October 16th at Bryan Park. This is always a great event where all proceeds go towards our annual Research Promotion goal.
We always like to do our joint student chapter meeting in October and this year will be no different. Please make plans to join us (virtually) the evening of October 20th for a joint student meeting on Psychrometrics and real world application.
Chapter Technology Transfer and Programs
My name is Desmond Jenkins, I will be serving as this years CTTC Chair for the 2020-2021 year. I'd like to start by sending a spceial thanks to everyone who sent back the DL Evaluation Survey from last week's meeting. Judging from the positive reviews, I'd like to think that everyone enjoyed Mike Schwedler's "High Performance Chilled Water Systems" presentation. As we continue to hold our meetings online due to Covid, Miguel and I have decided that it is best to record the lectures from here on out. Starting with next months October meeting we will send out the recordings along with the DL Evaluation Survey for you all to send back. I look forward to building with each and every one of you as we continue to push for another great year!
First things first, I would like to give a big thanks to all the donors and sponsors last year! We couldn’t do it without you. With that being said, it is a new year with a goal of $31,000 for ASHRAE research. ASHRAE research is vital to furthering our industry. At any one time, there are more than 10 million dollars’ worth of projects being conducted, which are funded with your donations.
I believe most of you can agree when I say 2020 will be a year we never forget! Many businesses in our industry, both small and large, are struggling to overcome the obstacles presented by Covid-19. Covid will have an ever lasting impact on our industry, and ASHRAE research will be at the forefront of the changes needed to do our part in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Through your efforts and donations to ASHRAE research, new operational standards will be implemented to provide a more safe and healthy work place.
Please be on the lookout for our special event schedule for the 2020-2021 campaign year. We'll have our staple golf outings, Christmas Auction, and the always fun Skeet Shoot. We hope to see you all out at Bryan Park October 16th!
Thank you Team!
My name is Josh Wagoner and I am the new Membership Promotion Chair for the 20-21 year. I'm relatively new to the industry and have been a part of ASHRAE for a little less than a year now. Despite that, I am very excited for what is to come for this organization in the next year and what ASHRAE can do for myself as well as everyone in the organizaiton. Not only does the organization provide its members with personal and professional development, networking opprotunities, career advancement opportunities, and tons of technical resources for the industry, we also have a lot of fun while doing it! We look forward to you all attending our future meetings and remember to saddle up on your membership dues!
Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)
With the annual fall golf tournament coming up on Friday 10/16 YEA will be getting together to hit some balls at the driving range Tuesday 10/13. I will send out an email with time and location. Hopefully, we can find some beers after.
I am excited to be this years Historian. This year we will be interviewing some of our life members and allow them to shed some light on how ASHRAE influenced them and their industry. We will also be working on archiving our historical documents and sharing these fun pieces of our history with the chapter.
ATTENTION STUDENTS!! ASHRAE offers a number of scholarships. Check them out on the ASHRAE Student Zone Webpage. The deadline to apply is December 1. While Chapter interviews are not required for application, they can help. You may request an interview through Dr. Megri or Tesiero.
Stay tuned for the next meeting announcement which will be for our 2020 student emphasis meeting. The topic will be Applied Psychrometrics ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Doug Zentz of Ferris State University. It will be a virtual meeting using GoToMeeting due to ongoing COVID related restrictions. I hope all students and faculty advisors can attend.
