Message from the President

Hello North Piedmont Chapter! October was a busy month for our chapter, packed with the golf outings in addition to our monthly meeting.

Distinguished Lecturer, Doug Zentz, joined us (virtually) for our joint meeting with the student chapter at A&T University, and we had a great turnout. We recognized our 2 student members, LeeRoy Nchinda & Kayla McIntosh, that were awarded ASHRAE scholarships.  I am overjoyed to see our organization directly helping our future professionals.

Finally, the golf outing was a splendid success with amazing fall weather and even better company. At the end of the day, we had raised $1,430 for ASHRAE Research! Congrats to our overall winners, Jim Swofford, Alex Bradley and Scott Goller!

Chapter Technology Transfer and Programs

I'd like to start off by saying how proud I was to present the Donald Brady and James R. Bullock Scholarship to two NC A&T Students. I truly believe that these scholarships will serve as a great tool to help LeeRoy Nchinda and Kayla McIntosh become successful leaders in tomorrow's future. In addition to the award presentation, we we're treated with a special presentation by Doug Wentz on "Applied Psychometrics". This was a great topic for the student-chapter meeting as they continue to grow and navigate through their HVAC courses. Lastly, I'd like to send a special thanks to my team at the Annual Golf Event as we took home the "penny participation" trophy. Good job guys, those trees didn't stand a chance against us.

Student Activities

Student Emphasis Meeting

Thanks to Professor Zentz and NC A & T faculty and students for making our October student emphasis meeting, COVID edition, a huge success.  Eighteen students attended (virtually.)  Faculty reported that students said Professor Zentz’ presentation on Applied Psychometrics was the best and most informative chapter meeting they had attended.

Scholarships

Congratulations to Kayla McIntosh on her receipt of the James R. Bullock Jr. Scholarship in the amount of $5000 and to LeeRoy Nchinda on his award of the Donald Brady Scholarship in the same amount.  Students, please take inspiration from the success of your classmates and apply for one of 45 scholarships available for next academic year.  Applications and information may be found at the student zone on the ASHRAE website.  You may also contact me at [email protected] to schedule an interview with Chapter members to supplement your application.  Interviews are not required but may be helpful.
